2021 Breaking News! FIVE of SpringLight's students Qualified USABO Finalist/Camp!
All of them have studied BIOLOGY/USABO with Mrs. Webster.
Congratulations to the students!
Since 2013 SpringLight has offered USABO training. Starting in 2014, we have seen great achievement in our students' success. Qualifying for USABO semifinalists (many of whom are 8th and 9th graders), many of our students are in the top 100 and top 50 nationwide. Our students frequently stand among the 20 USABO national finalists.
Most of our students receive a score of 5 on their AP biology test.
Through the years, Mrs. Webster's teaching approach faithfully prepares students to meet academic requirements, as she inspires in each student a deep love for the study of biology. Even in the midst the current pandemic crisis, our students continue to progress and achieve academic success through their perseverance and hard work.
This year, SpringLight offers remote learning opportunities via Zoom to meet our students' needs, helping them reach their academic goals. We provide students with a Google folder which includes: a textbook reading guide, practice problems for homework, class schedule and syllabus, and more. Every class is recorded so that students can go back to review all previously taught information. Classes will remain on Zoom despite California lifting restrictions to keep teachers and families safe.

---------------------------
USABO class is for highly motivated USABO competition students. As recommended by the USABO organization, we will be covering every single chapter in the Campbell biology book (the official book of the competition). This means students may need to read and review up to 5 chapters a week. Advanced USABO class is for highly motivated USABO competition students who feel like the regular USABO class is too much of a review (for example, for students who have already read most of Campbell). To keep ourselves challenged and to continue growing our biology knowledge, we will learn anatomy and physiology using Tortora and Derrickson’s 13th edition of Principles of Anatomy and Physiology. If students request, we can also cover certain plant biology chapters from Stern’s Introductory Plant Biology. We will also learn how to read and analyze primary literature—this is a useful skill for any future scientist, and especially one who is planning to intern in a lab as a highschooler!---------------
Advanced USABO class is for highly motivated students who who have already ready most of Campbell 's Biology.
---------------
AP Biology class will cover the entire AP Biology course as laid out by the College Board, with a special emphasis on the most challenging chapters (for example, photosynthesis and cell signaling).
The class is appropriate for students who will take the AP Biology in school this fall or who are self-studying for the exam.
---------------
Honors Biology class is for Students without any biology background-- the same level of biology as the 9th grade classes in public schools and some private schools.
-------------------
Honors Biology class is for any curious student, regardless of experience. The class exceeds the level of high school biology taught to 9th grade classes at local schools, so it helps students do better in school. Most honors biology students find the course so fun and interesting that they choose to continue studying biology.
