Title: A talk on the practice of bibliographic description of LGBTQ+ people in libraries
Description: This presentation will discuss the history of cataloging and classifying LGBTQ+ people in libraries, and how that history contextualizes current bibliographic description practices of these groups today. In particular, work done at the University of Kentucky Libraries to implement the Homosaurus, an international linked data vocabulary focused on LGBTQ+ topics and concepts, in their library catalog will be examined.
Bio: Adrian Williams (they/them) is the Cataloging & Metadata Librarian at the University of Kentucky Libraries. Their interests include inclusive subject headings and classification and the history of the bibliographic description of marginalized and minority groups.
