👀 Open call for artists to participate in the TickerTape-Parade during Antwerp Art Weekend.

Following our previous  “Ticker Tape”-project, NICC has decided to launch another open call for creatives to participate during Antwerp Art Weekend. In 2021, Cel Crabeels (former board member NICC) introduced the ticker tape as a means of exploring other networks, methods, channels, and visual strategies to connect art and artists with the public. This year we want to further explore this unconventional yet interesting medium.

For 25 years, NICC has fought to better the socio-economical position of visual artists in Belgium. By raising awareness, opening up dialogues, and actively promoting young artists, this artist-run organization tackles the framework within which the artistic practice takes place to change it for the better.

In 2023, NICC is participating in Antwerp Art Weekend again, with two ticker tapes installed in two different locations (Albert Heijn Groenplaats and De Studio).

In essence, NICC would like to invite artists to reflect on the socio-political hazard they have to navigate these days, and to vocalize their thoughts (in any way that feels comfortable) for the public to read. The idea is that the artists get to vent their thoughts by presenting these (concise) bodies of text on the ticker tapes placed at the two aforementioned locations, as well as on social media and the website of NICC. 

In doing so, we hope to transform the ticker tape machine — which was originally used to transfer text remotely to a printing device — into an autonomous artistic medium to help connect with a diverse public.

👀Open call voor kunstenaars die willen deelnemen aan de TickerTape-Parade tijdens Antwerp Art Weekend.

In opvolging van ons laatste “Ticker Tape” -project, heeft NICC besloten een nieuwe open call te lanceren voor alle creatievelingen om deel te nemen aan Antwerp Art Weekend. In 2021 introduceerde Cel Crabeels (voormalig board member NICC) de ticker tape als instrument om andere netwerken, methoden, kanalen en visuele strategieën te onderzoeken die kunnen helpen een brug te slaan tussen kunst, kunstenaar en publiek. Dit jaar willen we dit onconventioneel en interessant medium verder uitdiepen.

Al 25 jaar vecht het NICC voor een betere socio-economische positie van beeldende kunstenaars in België. Door bewustmaking, het aangaan van dialogen en actieve promotie van jonge kunstenaars pakt deze artist-run netwerkorganisatie het kader waarbinnen de kunstpraktijk plaatsvindt aan om het ten goede te veranderen.

In 2023 neemt NICC opnieuw deel aan Antwerp Art Weekend met twee ticker tapes en heeft zich verzekerd van twee locaties (Albert Heijn Groenplaats en De Studio), waar kunstenaars verschillende netwerken, methodes, kanalen en visuele strategieën kunnen verkennen om kunst en kunstenaars met het publiek te verbinden.

In essentie wil het NICC kunstenaars uitnodigen om na te denken over het sociaal-politieke gevaar waar zij tegenwoordig mee te maken hebben, en om hun gedachten (op een manier die comfortabel voelt) aan het publiek voor te leggen. Het idee is dat de kunstenaars, om hun hart te luchten, deze (korte) teksten presenteren op de ticker tapes die op de twee bovengenoemde locaties worden geplaatst, en op de sociale media en website van NICC.

Op deze manier hopen we de ticker tape machine - die oorspronkelijk werd gebruikt om tekst op afstand over te brengen naar een drukapparaat - om te vormen tot een autonoom artistiek medium om een band met een divers publiek op te bouwen.
