APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS: 1) Application must be received/postmarked by February 24, 2024.
2) Teachers or families of participating students must be members of the Performing Arts Society by February 1, 2024. Preference will be given to members of the CCPAS Student Chapter who are currently in High School and reside in Contra Costa County or study with the teacher who resides in Contra Costa County. Other students will be accepted if space is available.
3) Students participating must be playing at Certificate of Merit Level Advanced (or equivalent).
4) Only one student per teacher will be allowed to participate in the Master Class.
5) Up to FIVE (5) students will be selected to participate. Selection is not based on the order in which applications are received but based on considerations to ensure a variety of repertoire.
6) Music must be played from memory and should be no longer than 10 minutes in duration.
7) Participating students will be notified by March 1, 2024.
8) Application fee: There is no fee for students who are members of the PAS Student Chapter, or whose family or teacher is a member of PAS.

MASTER TEACHER BIOGRAPHY:
Born to a family of musicians, Misha Galant began piano lessons at the age of six. Throughout high school, he received guidance from Sharon Mann and Yoshikazu Nagai of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. He is a graduate of Columbia University, where he studied piano with Joseph Kalichstein through the Columbia-Juilliard Exchange while also pursuing degrees in Data Science and Russian Literature. He received Master of Music from the University of Utah where he studied with Dr. Viktor Valkov. Among his other influential teachers are Tatiana Zelikman of the Gnesin School in Moscow and Yu-Jane Yang of Weber State University. Misha has performed with the Fort Worth, Rochester, Utah, and Oakland symphonies, among others. Misha is a prizewinner of the first Van Cliburn Junior and of the Eastman piano competitions in 2015, and was chosen as one of two Gilmore Young Artists in 2020. In March of 2022, Misha performed a benefit concert for Ukraine which raised $8500. Beyond his musical and academic endeavors, he enjoys hiking and mountain running and swam for the Columbia University swim team.
