Words of Wisdom Spelling & Academic Tutoring Fall 2023 Spelling Bee: Registration Form
1. Official bee rules: Click here to read the full contest rules.

1a. Study guide:
All words will be taken from Merriam-Webster Unabridged online. The recommended study guides are Words of Wisdom: Keys to Success in the Scripps National Spelling Bee, 5th ed. (last revision date: October 2, 2023; revision #30) (https://www.amazon.com/Words-Wisdom-Success-National-Spelling/dp/1723189553/), Sesquipedalia!: A Rigorous Vocabulary Study Guide (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09R3DV5JB), and Regional Bee Ready! (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0BQXY16PY). If you don’t have a copy of WoW or haven’t updated your copy in a while, it would be a good idea to do so in advance of the bee. There is no study list for the bee.

There are also modules and supplemental word lists available for purchase here: https://www.spellingbeebook.com/word-lists

You may also refer to the 2020, 2021, and 2022 WoW Bee results and prelims tests for practice and to get a sense of what kinds of words will be asked:

2. Registration procedure: Please complete all the questions in this form and pay the $45 registration fee via Venmo to enroll in the spelling bee. Venmo $45 to 216-246-2040 (@scott-remer; there will be a picture of Scott in a green shirt) WITH THE FULL NAME OF YOUR SPELLER (FIRST AND LAST NAME) IN THE MESSAGE LINEDO NOT SELECT THE “PURCHASE PROTECTION” BOX.  You will be responsible for paying any seller's fees that Venmo charges.

Venmo is strongly, strongly preferred as a method of payment--it is by far the most convenient for me. I MUST RECEIVE THE FEE PAYMENT FOR REGISTRATION TO BE COMPLETE!!! YOU SHOULD PAY IMMEDIATELY UPON COMPLETING THE REGISTRATION FORM.

3. Alternate modes of payment: You can also use Zelle (same phone number or sremer888@gmail.com) or PayPal ONLY IF YOU MARK "FRIENDS AND FAMILY" TO AVOID PAYPAL FEES--if PayPal charges me any fees because you forgot to mark "Friends and family," then you will be responsible for paying them.

4. Registration deadline: The deadline for enrollment is Tuesday, November 28, at 5:00 PM EST. VERY IMPORTANT NOTE: I must receive the registration fee in order for registration to be complete. If you don't pay the fee, your speller won't be registered. Thank you for paying promptly upon registering!

5. Confirmation of registration: You will receive a copy of your responses to this registration form. Once you have paid the registration fee WITH THE FULL NAME OF YOUR SPELLER IN THE MESSAGE LINE, your speller will be successfully registered for the competition. You will not receive an email from me until I send out the information about the bee in late November.

6. Emails about the Bee: PLEASE ADD MY EMAIL (SREMER888@GMAIL.COM) TO YOUR "SAFE SENDERS" LIST TO MAKE SURE MY EMAILS DON'T GO TO SPAM. YOU WILL RECEIVE AN EMAIL WITH ALL INFO ABOUT THE BEE BY NOVEMBER 29 AT THE LATEST.
