Words of Wisdom Spelling & Academic Tutoring Fall 2020 Bee: Preliminaries Test
This test consists of 50 questions: 25 spelling and 25 vocabulary. Each question has 4 answer choices and counts for 2 points each for a total score of 100 possible points; only 1 answer is correct for each question. You will not be penalized for incorrect answers, so you should guess if you don't know the answer to a question.

Read each question carefully and complete the test to the best of your ability. You will have 75 minutes to do so. Consultation of any outside resource including the dictionary will be grounds for immediate disqualification. You are not permitted to have any other browser windows open while taking this test. To submit your answers, click "Submit" at the very bottom of the page after answering all of the questions. You may be asked to complete a Captcha (clicking some squares to prove you're not a robot). If this happens, don't panic--simply complete the Captcha.

In the spelling section, the pronunciations are provided (using Merriam-Webster's diacritical markings). However, you can also listen to Scott read the words aloud at the following link; you can listen to the recording as many times as you like: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1aIOiGNaHdbYgHAu4U4IIOIqLssE47aT5/view?usp=sharing

You will NOT be able to edit your answers once you have submitted them. The test period will begin at 8:00 pm EST; WAIT UNTIL 8:00 PM EST TO BEGIN. You MUST submit your answers by 9:15 pm EST.

You will receive your score instantaneously. All spellers will advance to the semifinals. The preliminaries test results will only be used as a tiebreaker if there are ties in placement. The preliminaries test is, however, excellent practice for the National Spelling Bee, and you can use your results to help identify areas that you still need to work on.
