Adapted from curriculum from The New York Times, Writing for the World courses will provide both middle school and high school level composition instruction for students from 5th to 12th grade*.
Students will practice reading and writing in a variety of genres in order to cultivate their skills as writers, readers and thinkers. For students, The Times’ curriculum offers confirmation that they have something valuable to say, a wide range of choice in how to say it, and a global audience eager to listen. Students will have ample opportunities to document their lives, tell stories, express opinions, investigate ideas, interview fascinating people or analyze culture. Finally, each module is linked with a competition from The Times, allowing students to go beyond the classroom and share their writing with the world.
*Intermediate composition is recommended for 5th-8th graders and will include brief grammar lessons in addition to writing.
*Advanced composition is recommended for 9th-12th graders.
