[Permaculture Center Kamomimi]
Permaculture Center Kamimomi (Pamimomi) was founded in 2017 in Kamimomi, Kumenan-cho, Okayama Prefecture. Kamimomi is a traditional Japanese Satoyama village with a 1400 year history. Pamimomi consists of rice terraces, row crop fields, intensive gardens, a diverse orchard, a food forest, cypress and cedar plantation forest, and mix deciduous forest on a south-facing slope. Our water comes from abundant spring water supplied by a pristine forest at the top of the mountain. Everything we need is located in this Satoyama. At Pamimomi, which some mornings overlooks a sea of clouds, the main building is being used as a community house where interns live and occasional guests stay. We host a variety of lectures and workshops inviting instructors from around Japan and abroad. There are also one-off workshops on natural building, natural farming, DIY plastering, appropriate technology, forestry, a year-round no-till rice cultivation school, nd a kids program (garden education). We also participate in community work and festivals with local villagers. We often receive wild pig and deer from hunters, and we prepare the meat ourselves.
As part of the training program, we're providing monthly lectures on Permaculture Design.
Currently, we are working at Pamimomi with core members, trainees, and outside staff. We are looking for 4 interns who would like to live and work together.
[Participation conditions]
• People who can commit to training from April 1, 2024 to March 31, 2025
• People who want to live and learn in a permaculture community.
• People who are interested in natural and organic farming.
• People who want to live in Satoyama: Aiming to become self-sufficient based on rice, vegetables, and meat from this mountain. Since our energy sources are the sun and biomass, our daily life consists of chopping wood and making fires. Also, while taking care of the spring water source, we use composting toilets instead of flush toilets.
• People who enjoy living together: people who can coordinate and cooperate with others.
• People who are positive and interact with people cheerfully.
• People who can clean and tidy up properly.
• People who like to cook for themselves (we all do the daily meals, clean up, etc.)
• People who can work independently
• People with physical stamina: Since we live an agricultural lifestyle, most of the work requires physical effort.
• People who can live and work with a diversity of people.
• Driving license (manual is better)
• People who are not good at living together.
