The Priority Project is a new solution to help women experiencing domestic violence secure housing and avoid homelessness.

How it works:

1. Women experiencing DFV who are in need of housing are referred to a Partnership Broker at The Priority Project by their case manager.

2. A Partnership Broker matches women with appropriate properties on the property register. The owners of properties on this register have elected to prioritise rental to tenants who have experienced DFV. A woman’s needs will be considered alongside different property options.

3. If there is a suitable property match, the woman independently signs a lease and will be continually supported by her DV or housing service provider.

Tenants in the rental properties will be supported by a housing support service/not-for-profit organisation.

The job of managing the property would be the same for your property manager.

The service would not require you to discount your rent to a woman who has experienced family and domestic violence. This would be optional for you.

Most properties would be eligible to be on the private rentals property register. There will be a range of options for housing - properties with different security features. Some owners could choose to upgrade security features, but this would not be required.

This service does NOT involve headleasing your property with a social service - headleasing would mean the tenant’s name is NOT on the lease, but a social service takes responsibility for the lease. You will sign a lease as per normal'.
