CalBal 2023 Name Your Own Price Application

For California Balboa Classic 2023, we are committed to creating access for folks who could not afford to attend the event without some form of assistance. We know that CalBal is expensive for lots of people and we don't want it to be an event that is only attainable by people with substantial financial resources.

Scholarships and NYOP Passes are made possible by Patrons of Pacific Swing Dance Foundation who have made a financial contribution. Pacific Swing Dance Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation (https://pacificswingdancefoundation.org).

Scholarship vs. Name-Your-Own Price: What's the difference? Who is eligible?

Name-Your-Own-Price: NYOP passes are intended for folks who, due to financial difficulties, would not be able to afford to attend CalBal at the regular price of $250. If you are tempted to apply for NYOP because you might just get a discount: DON'T. NYOP is not a discount program, it is a program to assist folks who are financially disadvantaged.

After verifying eligibility, NYOP passes will be awarded on a lottery basis.

Scholarships: Our scholarship committee focuses on creating access for members of historically excluded groups and those who may have trouble attending CalBal due to other social and economic barriers. Our Scholarship committee takes into account factors like: geographic location, personal background, and current educational status.
Scholarship awards may cover anything starting from the cost of a pass up to all costs of attendance (pass, travel, lodging, food, etc.)

It is important that CalBal participation remains accessible to dancers that are unable to afford the overall costs of large events.  We are planning to leave some tickets temporarily available for purchase for individuals that are not awarded a scholarship.
