2022-23 Writer Application
WSN is looking for students interested in writing for the paper ahead of the upcoming 2022-23 academic year. Before you fill out this application, read our guide to applying at nyunews.com/join.

Students have the opportunity for any of WSN's six sections, or 'desks' — short descriptions of each desk are below. You can visit our website and click on any of our sections in the navigation bar at the top of the page to read past stories and understand what kind of writing each desk publishes.

Writers are expected to attend weekly pitch meetings on Sunday afternoons, as well as occasional orientations and writing workshops. During pitch meetings, writers pitch new stories to editors, give updates on what they're currently working on, and have the opportunity to meet other members of staff.

You can apply to write for WSN whether you're in New York City or studying away. If you're studying away, please tell us where you'll be this semester in one of your responses.

More about what each of WSN's desks publish:
News: Events and updates concerning NYU, surrounding neighborhoods, and anything else that impacts the university community.

Arts: Reviews, think pieces and news about the art that students consume and produce.

Culture: Life at NYU, campus culture and community interests. Also includes subsections for dining, beauty & style, and identity & equity.

Opinion: Perspectives on what's happening around NYU, the city and the world.

Sports: Coverage and analysis of NYU's athletics teams and local sports.
WSN is also looking for writers interested in contributing to our features section, which publishes long-form pieces that take a deep dive into aspects of life at and around NYU. Since requirements and expectations for features writers are different from other sections, a separate application is required. Please fill out this form if you are interested.
Do you have any past journalism experience, including at WSN? Tell us why you'd like to write for the paper! *
