2022-23 Features Writer Application
WSN is looking for students interested in writing for the features desk for the upcoming 2022-23 academic year. Before you fill out this application, read our guide to applying at nyunews.com/join.

The features desk publishes long-form stories (often exceeding 2,000 words) that take a deep dive into aspects of life at and around NYU. Features can be an extensive background of a news story, an investigation or a deep dive into a specific phenomenon, issue or group.

Writing a feature story is a long-term time commitment that may span an entire semester, but on average will take between 4 and 8 weeks. Features writers should expect to spend at least 6 hours a week on their work.

Writers will be expected to be available for weekly in-person check-ins and collaborative workshops.

Examples of two feature stories are below. Each of these stories went through at least 3 rounds of in-depth edits.
