Melburners Grant Application Form - Education & Empowerment Workshops

Melburners facilitates the growth and empowerment of a vibrant, expressive and artistic burner community in Victoria. The Education & Empowerment Grant is provided to subsidise costs associated with delivering educational experiences and initiatives, such as workshops or skill sharing, that further the Burner ethos and align with the Melburners Vision. 

Education & Empowerment Grant applications are open year-round. Melburners reserves the right to run a grants round with unique application dates, however generally applications must be submitted at least four weeks prior to the initiative delivery date.

Throughout the application form we will refer to your "workshop" or “project”, this refers to the educational experience, initiative, or workshop we would be funding. Applications will be considered from $10 to $500 per project. If your project will cost over that amount please include details of the other planned funding activities to complete your budget.

Grants Guidelines

WHAT DO WE FUND?

Melburners funds community-led initiatives aligned with Melburners’ vision. We envision workshops, upskilling initiatives, or other educational activities. We can provide funding for:

   * Materials necessary to complete the intended activity

   * Renting necessary facilities or equipment for a limited duration

   * Subsidised transportation - capped and location specific

   * Limited tools


WHAT DO WE NOT FUND?

Melburners does NOT directly fund:

   * storage, rent

   * labour, wages

   * equipment for amplifying music


We provide these grants to Victorian individuals or groups where Victorian residents make up the majority.

If you don't live in Victoria, reach out to your Burning Man regional contacts by emailing australia@burningman.org to determine what type of funding may be available in your state.


Workshop Grant applications are assessed on multiple criteria, including:

   * Community needs or skill shortage

   * Real-world application

   * Safety 

    *Achievability

    * Interactivity

   * Cost effectiveness

   * Overall scope/plan

   * Inclusive and accessible

   * Alignment to Melburners Vision and Burner Principles


YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

   *It is your responsibility to plan and execute all aspects of your project from start to finish including planning, facilitation, and follow-up. 

   * It is your responsibility to ensure participant safety. If you are holding a workshop with skills requiring any licensing, you must hold all legal licences to practise and teach said skill. 

    * It is your responsibility to secure a venue. If needed, Melburners can offer suggestions for recommended venues, but it is your responsibility to communicate with the venue regarding available facilities etc. 

   * It is your responsibility to Leave No Trace and any negative feedback from events may result in being unsuccessful in the future

   * It is your responsibility to complete a brief after-report for Melburners. 

   * You retain ownership of all intellectual and material property prepared as part of the implementation of your project.

If you are applying to hold a workshop at an event:

   *If you are delivering your workshop at an event, it is your responsibility to work with the event you are attending to ensure your project is approved for delivery at their event. Melburners cannot facilitate the acquisition of tickets at events, or approval for your project to be delivered.

Melburners may fund a small part, some or all of your project. The amount awarded to you may be dependent upon annual budgeting allocation constraints and demand throughout the year.
