Petition for Tuition Reimbursement from the University of Colorado
University of Colorado needs; student representation, decision-making accountability and financial transparency. In the midst of a pandemic, the CU community deserves financial relief, to be heard and to be represented.

Although there is more work for professors and less effective learning for students, faculty have taken pay reductions and students have been forced to pay full tuition. To fix this, we propose the school is obligated to shares the federal funding already received and future funding provided.

Recent events and interactions between students and CU leadership have exposed the need for student representation, which is proposed to be solved through Student Regents and the Regent Accountability, Feedback and Transparency Committee.

A change of program calls for a change of cost, but if CU will fail to admit any change, we will just demand what is fair. While we, the students, families and faculty, understand the need for new delivery methods of the program, the steep cost of tuition and lower pay is not justified. There have been significant changes to how the education is delivered, but there have not been equivalent changes to tuition or salaries. The professors and students have adapted to the undoubtedly challenging online learning environment, and we deserve compensation for the hardship. We, the consumers of CU services require a fiscal fix and believe the university is obligated to give a portion of the federal funding to students, faculty and staff.

Many individuals are experiencing economic hardship, and the University of Colorado has done little about it, and instead invests in the wrong places; trying to open facilities that no one is going to, a late attempt to launch online learning and marketing.

The Leeds School of Business at CU Boulder teaches future business leaders to develop solutions for their consumers and stresses that there is an obligation for businesses to provide what is promised or fix the issue with a solution of equal value. These are all things that CU teaches but has not put into practice.

It is time that the consumers of the CU school system demand a fair fix to the inequitable tuition, lack of transparency and missing students representation that occurs at the University of Colorado.

CU has made an honest and strong effort to maintain the quality of education, however, it is unfair to say that the program offers the same opportunities as before. The claim that the program still offers a similar enough experience as pre-pandemic semesters is clearly false when Faculty Course Questionnaires have also changed, live instruction time has been reduced for many courses and networking opportunities are not only less frequent but when on Zoom, they do not work the same as in person. Thus, we believe a change of program calls for a change of cost.

I believe the current state of CU's spending and decision-making is unfair. I stand with this student-led initiative to demand a more fair tuition, transparency and representation during the coronavirus pandemic. I request that the Board of Regents pass action items at April 8th's meeting that provides financial compensation for members of the University of Colorado school system, fair representation for students of the University of Colorado school system, and for transparency of financials and decision-making within the University of Colorado school system. *
