Keeping Current: Repetitive Loss Sites
Van Alen Institute is working in partnership with the City of North Miami to redesign flood-prone vacant lots (repetitive loss sites) within the community.

One of these sites has been selected as a pilot for a design concept that will help protect surrounding properties and residents from flooding while providing more useful space for the community.

In addition to the redesign of the pilot site, the Keeping Current effort will also produce a master plan to help guide the city’s future actions with other flood-prone lots located within North Miami.

Your responses to the questions below will help shape the final master plan.

About the Pilot Site and Conceptual Design
The flood-prone vacant lot (repetitive loss site) selected for the pilot project is located at 901 NE 144th Street. This property is owned by the City of North Miami.

The conceptual design, below, illustrates how the site can prevent excessive flooding for neighboring properties by collecting water. Markers and gauges are included to inform residents about changing water levels. A landscape of South Florida native plants surround the site and features a walking path and seating areas.
