Smoky Hill High School IB Middle Years Program Application Form for 2023-2024 for Incoming Freshmen (Current 8th Graders)
Thank you for considering the IB Middle Years Program at Smoky Hill High School in the Cherry Creek School District! We review applications in the order in which we receive your submission of this application AND the applicant's first semester of 8th grade official grade report.

Here is our application review breakdown!

  • First Round Review: January 1st to January 31st
  • Second Round Review: February 1st to March 12th.
  • Third Round Review: March 13th  through the end of 4th quarter

Incoming Freshmen interested in the Program MUST:
  1. Complete this application
  2. Email an official current grade report of your first semester and current 8th grade grades WITHIN 3 DAYS of completing this form to our MYP Coordinator, Mrs. Fitzgerald at kfitzgerald2@CherryCreekSchools.org
Acceptance letters will be sent via email on a weekly basis to students who reside in the Smoky Hill HS feeder area.
All correspondence with our IB Office will be through email.

Grades

How to Get The Official Report:
  1. You may log onto Powerschool and check your grades. Make sure you are looking at your 1st semester of 8th grade grades. 
  2. Press "ctrl+P" to print the page, but change the printer option to "Save as PDF" or "Print to PDF". Instead of printing, the document will be saved as a PDF. Click print/save to do this. 
  3. If this does not work for you, you may send an image/jpeg/screenshot of your grade report. Or, you can contact your school's Records department and ask them to provide you a copy of your 8th grade grade report.
Feeders/School of Choice/IntraDistrict:
  • Students currently in SHHS feeder schools will be notified of their status by email within two weeks of us receiving their completed application and  grade report.
  •  Students requesting School of Choice will be notified of their status by email by early April 2023.
  •  Students requesting IntraDistrict Transfer and Non-Resident acceptance will be notified of their status by email after district decisions are made regarding maximum school enrollment, likely by mid-May.
IMPORTANT DISTRICT ADMISSIONS DEADLINES:
  • School of Choice Application window: Jan 1 - Jan 31, 2023
  • IntraDistrict Transfer Request Application: Opens mid-March 2023
  • Non-Resident Application: opens April 1, 2023
If applicable, your CCSD Admissions application MUST be completed in addition to this SHHS IB MYP application. All admissions applications can be found on the CCSD Admissions website at: https://www.cherrycreekschools.org/Page/1349

*Please note, if you are in the Cherry Creek School District BUT you do not currently reside in the SHHS feeder area, you MUST complete a "School of Choice" online form, which is located on the CCSD Admissions website. This form is due by January 31st. Out-of-district candidates will need to complete a "Non-Resident Application" online form located on the CCSD Admissions website; this form will be available starting on April 1st.

The IB Parent Association's purpose is to support our students and parents, share helpful and important information in monthly newsletters, build a community among students, parents, and teachers, and fundraise for IB exam scholarships.
Section 2: World Language
The IB Middle Years Program establishes World Language as a core subject that students are required to take each year of the program.  Which language do you plan on taking? *
If you plan on taking Spanish, which level would you take? *
If you believe you should be in IB MYP Spanish 2, upon being accepted to the IB MYP Program, you will be required to take an online evaluation of your Spanish proficiency. The evaluation is created by our IB MYP Spanish teachers. The evaluation will be provided around the end of February/beginning of March (or upon acceptance if you are an Intra District Transfer or Out of District Applicant). It will take approximately  60 min max. We will contact you to provide you with the link and information for this evaluation. Understand that we are providing this evaluation in order to set you up for success and enroll you in the correct Spanish class. The evaluation is required.
Section 3: Short Response Questions
The IB Middle Years Program is a rigorous academic program that requires you to devote time and energy to multiple subject areas that may not be where your academic strengths or interests lie. Explain why you are choosing this program and what your plan is to be successful. *

During your sophomore year, each IB student is required to complete a Personal Project. Each IB student chooses their own topic that is connected to a global context (see below). Students develop a plan and criteria to implement and reflect on their processes and progress.
