Expectations:
Minimum age 18 (required for some events and locations)
Communicate via email, text, and phone.
Interest and ability in forward facing, customer service, patron engagement performance art environment.
Willingness to listen, learn, and follow the direction of House Management and Theatre staff.
Maintain a professional appearance and welcoming demeanor to all.
Be patient, attentive, and willing to assist House Manager and Theatre staff.
Dress Code:
Volunteers are expected to arrive presentable in business casual comfortable attire including:
Black or Khaki pants, skirt, or dress.
White collared button-up shirt, blouse, or polo (free of logos and branding other than Appalachian Theatre).
Comfortable closed-toe shoes are preferred (some events may require lengthy periods of standing).
A volunteer usher name badge and lanyard will be provided to you at the beginning of your assigned shift.
Exceptions - There may be opportunities where our volunteer team and front of house staff are encourage to dress in theme or more casual attire. This will be communicated for special events. The Appalachian Theatre does offer embroidered white polos w/ the ATHC logo that are available for purchase. There may be some occasions and events that volunteers will be authorized to wear AppTheatre t-shirts as well.
Requesting shifts for events:
Volunteer Calls will be sent out once per week,
with the slate of open events needing volunteers up to two months in advance.
If there is an event that you wish to be
considered to volunteer, you may submit that in the comment section of the
Google Form, or through the Weekly Volunteer Update.
Preference for events will be given to those
volunteers that have remained active and consistently been scheduled for recent
events.
It is expected that to be considered as an
active volunteer that you attend one of the volunteer training sessions held throughout each quarter, but we will be happy to welcome you to an upcoming event to shadow with our volunteer team to learn the basics.

- What can and cannot come inside the building
and/or the house.
- Emergency Preparedness & Evacuation
procedures
- Walk-thru “how-to’s” of each volunteer position.
- Tutorial and intro to the monthly email and
