Apply to be an LA Mentor!
There are two main components to the CU LA Mentor program:
(1) LA Mentors help new LAs increase their confidence and competence in their first semester.
(2) LA Mentors learn about and practice effective mentoring through self-reflection and collaboration.

Just like the LA Experience, the LA Mentor experience has three main components:
   - Practice: your weekly interactions with mentees (paid)
   - Weekly Prep: a time to coordinate with the whole team to prepare for the upcoming week (paid)
   - Pedagogy: in this case, EDUC 4620, Becoming an LA Mentor I (2 course credits)

Start here to learn more about the LA Mentor Program, then come back and complete this application: https://www.colorado.edu/program/learningassistant/student-resources#la_mentors-12

Notes:
   - You can, but are not required to, be hired as both an LA and LA Mentor at the same time.
   - We know your schedules are still pretty tentative. If you are interested in being an LA Mentor, apply and meet with us and we'll confirm scheduling availability as we get closer to the start of the fall semester.

Application deadline: We will begin contacting applicants on Monday, August 9th for interview, but will accept applications after this point.

LA Mentor I (EDUC 4620) is a 2-credit course focused on developing YOUR skills as a mentor. The course is structured to help you understand the role of LA Mentors within the CU Boulder LA Program and will provide opportunities for you to practice your agency within our community.
    -- Course time: Thursdays 4:00 - 5:30 pm Mountain
    --  Modality: Remote (Zoom)
As in any 2-credit course, you should expect to spend 2-3 hr/wk on reading, discussions, and other assignments outside of class time.

Your paid position as a new LA Mentor includes these responsibilities:
1. Group Mentoring + Debrief ("flock") -- 2 hr/wk
Every week, you will meet with 3-5 students during the first 30 minutes of the Monday LA pedagogy class. This meeting will take place on Zoom. You will have one group in each of two pedagogy sections for a total of 6-8 mentees. New Mentors will be paired with an Experienced or Super Mentor for one of their two groups and will work with this other Mentor to accomplish these observations. During the weeks of the audio transcripts, student surveys, and poster session rehearsal you will interact with your mentees for the full 50 min class session.  Every week, you will meet with the other Mentors in your "flock" to debrief your group session and to plan for future group mentoring. You will need to be available for TWO of these times:
    - Mondays 11:30 am - 12:30 pm
    - Mondays 3:00 - 4:00 pm
    - Mondays 4:10 - 5:10 pm
    - Mondays 5:20 - 6:20 pm

2. Individual Mentoring -- Avg 1-2 hr/wk
Observation Sessions: Observe each of your mentees 1 time per semester as they interact with students in their LA contexts. These observations will likely be a mixture of recorded remote sessions and in-person observations.
  - Mentor/mentee Meetings: Meet individually with each of your mentees before and after each in-class observation. This can take place on Zoom or in-person, depending on the comfort level and preferences of you and your mentee(s).

3. Weekly Prep Meeting -- 1 hr/wk
Each week you will meet with other new and experienced Mentors to discuss logistics, review pedagogy concepts, and finalize your preparations for upcoming mentoring interactions. You will need to be available for ONE of these times:
    - Thursdays 2:20 - 3:20 pm (in-person)
    - Fridays 3:00 - 4:00 pm (in-person)
