SPECIAL NOTES ABOUT MEETINGS SCHEDULES DUE TO  COVID-19

1. We are unable to have summer workshops on campus.

2. If social-distancing restrictions are modified during the summer, we hope that teams can begin working together in person.

3. Zoom meetings over the summer may be scheduled to get Pre-Season activities organized/established.

4. WE CANNOT YET SAY WITH CERTAINTY WHAT THE FALL 2020 PRACTICE SCHEDULE WILL BE. The typical Bowie practice schedule Fall & Spring, is Tuesday & Thursday 4:45-6:30, plus some Saturdays right before tournaments.

BotDawgs Robotics participation is limited by campus facilities and available faculty sponsors/teachers. Hard decisions must be made, and ultimately not everyone that applies will be accepted. Each student is required to complete an application, including returning members. Being a previous BotDawg team member is no guarantee of future membership.

Information and Guidelines for Parents/Guardians
Membership on the Bowie BotDawgs Robotics Team demands a serious commitment. It is of utmost importance to safeguard the valuable time of our professional mentors and parent mentors, as well as our dedicated students. Team members who miss meetings or team build/programming time disrupt the flow of activities and fail to receive critical information.

Bowie BotDawgs is NOT a  just a “club.” It is an organization of highly competitive VEX robotics teams.  Each BotDawg team has regular practice times just like any other sport or competitive activity at Bowie HS. We require a serious weekly commitment that may not be the best fit for all applicants.  Regardless of other extra-curricular activities, BotDawgs are expected to attend all team meetings and meet the appropriate VEX time requirements.

Applicants who are heavily involved with other extra-curricular activities should consider carefully if BotDawgs Robotics is the right program for them.

We expect our BotDawgs to give the same commitment as they would to Band, Athletics, Choir, JROTC, Theater or other heavily time-consuming activities.  In order for the teams to be successful, each member of the team must be a contributing member.  BotDawgs that treat robotics as a low priority or a “drop in when convenient” activity will be dismissed from the program.

A significant portion of our funding comes from businesses and individuals that recognize the value of supporting an engineering program like VEX in our increasingly technical world. These funds are raised in campus-wide fundraisers and all team members are expected to contribute time towards fundraising.

**Note**: In the event that we are unable to find sufficient funding for all activities, travel or expenses not covered by fundraising, it will be necessary for you to provide additional funding beyond the participation fee to cover expenses.

While we encourage you to give your student as much leeway as possible, some of the machinery and equipment we use, though under supervision by a mentor, can be quite dangerous if misused and may not be appropriate for the maturity level of the your student. Please carefully consider your child before signing the “Parent Consent for Participation” form, which also includes your commitment to support your student in this program.
