You are being invited to participate in an online questionnaire exploring the perceptions of artificial intelligence (AI) in dental healthcare. The following information sheet will provide you with all the information concerning the questionnaire. Please read the following information carefully before agreeing to participate. Should you have any questions, you may contact one of the researchers listed at the bottom of this form before deciding whether to participate. Please ensure that any concerns you have are addressed before agreeing to take part. You are under no obligation to accept this invitation to take part, and you should only agree to take part if you are completely happy to do so. If you decide to take part and wish to withdraw at any point prior to the submission of your responses, you are free to do so, without providing any reason to the research team.

We are investigating the perceptions of the use of various AI methods in healthcare. The goal of this research is to identify the public perceptions of AI in healthcare. We are interested in exploring what factors predict whether healthcare users would be comfortable with AI being used to guide their healthcare.

Why have I been chosen to participate?

You have either been selected to take part as you meet the inclusion criteria. Please read the following inclusion criteria carefully to ensure that you are eligible to participate.

To take part you must:

- Be at least 18 years old.

Do I have to take part?

You are under no obligation to take part. Participation in this study is entirely voluntary. Should you choose to take part in the research and then wish to withdraw from the process at any stage prior to the submission of your responses, you are free to do so, without any explanation. Incomplete questionnaires will be removed from the dataset and will not be analyzed. Please note that the withdrawal of your data can only be achieved before the submission of your responses. Once you submit, your responses will be fully anonymized and will not be identifiable, and therefore, we will not be able to remove any responses once they have been submitted.

What will happen if I take part?

You will be asked to complete a questionnaire that consists of three relatively short sections. We anticipate that the questionnaire should take around 5-10 minutes to complete. Please complete the questionnaire in an area where you feel comfortable and take breaks if you need them. The first section will ask you to record your demographic information. Here, you will be asked to record your gender, age and highest educational qualification.

You will then be asked to complete two sections regarding Artificial Intelligence and its use in dental healthcare. In the first section, you will be asked several questions relating to your current knowledge of AI. You will be presented with a statement, for example “I feel comfortable explaining what AI is”. You will be asked to provide your response on a 5-point scale, ranging from strongly disagree to strongly agree. For the final question you will be asked to rate your overall understanding of AI on a 0-10 scale, with 0 reflecting no knowledge at all, and 10 reflecting a good knowledge of AI.

Following this, you will be asked to complete the final section, which explores the acceptability of AI in dental healthcare. Here, you will be asked questions such as “I would feel comfortable receiving a diagnosis via AI”. You will be asked to provide your response on a 5-point scale, ranging from strongly disagree to strongly agree. For the final question you will be asked to rate your overall acceptance of AI in healthcare on a 0-10 scale, with 0 reflecting not accepting at all, and 10 reflecting total acceptance of AI.

Following this, you will be debriefed and thanked for your participation.

How will my data be used?

TSV team processes personal data as part of its research and activities to complete the business plan and use decisions about our marketing strategies.

How will my data be collected?
All data will be collected using Qualtrics, an online survey tool.
How will my data be stored?
Data will be stored on password-protected computers, cloud services and external hard drives. The data is only accessible to members of the research team.
How long will my data be stored for?
The data will be stored for at least 10 years, which is now a requirement of many journals.
What measures are in place to protect the security and confidentiality of my data?
The data is only accessible to members of the research team. Additionally, all data is fully anonymized and therefore your data will not be identifiable. Data will be kept securely electronically.
Will my data be anonymized?
We do not collect any identifiable information and therefore all data will be fully anonymized.
How will my data be used?
Your data will be analyzed for TSV team and will be written up as a report as part of the B_test research. Should the data be of publishable quality, data will be fully anonymized and sent for publication in a journals or our website.
Who will have access to my data?
Only members of the research team.
Will my data be archived for use in other research projects in the future?
Your data may be archived and used for future research projects. However, data will be fully anonymized and will not be identifiable.
How will my data be destroyed?
Once anonymization has taken place (completion and submission of questionnaire responses), the destruction of your data will no longer be possible. You may withdraw during the data collection process at any stage to remove your data.
