Scarborough Building Steering Committee
The Scarborough School District needs you! Aging buildings and projected increases in student enrollment have us looking to the future for our primary schools. We are seeking highly qualified and motivated individuals to form a Building Steering Committee that will focus on identifying solutions to the space and maintenance challenges being felt at our three primary schools. Committee members will be expected to meet multiple times per month through the initial stages of the project. Community members with relevant experience in development, construction, project management, site development, and engineering are encouraged to apply!

All interested candidates will be asked to attend a meeting in late September/early October to review the charge of the committee as stated below, review expectations, and answer any further questions. In the meantime, please direct any initial questions you may have to boe@scarboroughschools.org

(Please note: Once the Steering Committee has presented their recommendation(s) to the Board of Education, additional committees will be formed to oversee various areas of the resulting project, if relevant.  In sum, there will be many opportunities to be involved.)

Primary School Building Steering Committee Charge

The committee's primary responsibility is to review the current research and evidence presented in the 2017 Facilities Master Plan, 2019 Enrollment Projections, as well as other relevant district evidence.  The committee must then gather any additional data needed to reasonably answer the following four questions as they relate to capital expansion in the Scarborough School District, with particular emphasis on the primary schools.

1. What are we going to build?
2. Where are we going to build it?
3. Who will design it?
4. How can we secure high levels of district and community support?

The Steering Committee is expected to report its findings and recommendations to the Board of Education early in January of 2020.

Thank you in advance for your interest in this emerging and crucial project for the future of our community.
