General Program Information

The Community Tree Program connects residents with free and reduced-cost tree plantings.

  • The program is open to all Newport residents, you do not need to own your home to request a new tree planting.
  • Trees may be planted on City property, along the street or sidewalk, or up to 20ft onto private property.
  • Addresses within Newport’s Health Equity Zone (HEZ), may request a new tree free of charge.
  • All other Newport residential addresses may request a tree planting for the subsidized cost of $125.

Terms and Conditions:

1. All planting will be performed by the City of Newport Public Services Department beginning in April. This program does not include the removal of an existing tree(s) to make space for the new tree.

2. Submitting an application does not guarantee receipt of a tree.

3. Trees may be requested for public property, or private property limited to 20ft from a public right-of-way.

4. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis and evaluated by the Newport Tree Conservancy & Newport Public Services Department for suitability. NTC Staff will contact all applicants with application status by March 28, 2024

5. Applications from within Newport’s Health Equity Zone will be given priority and will have fees waived.

6. Plantings must not interfere with utilities, hydrants, overhead wires, vehicular and pedestrian traffic considerations, or ADA accessibility regulations.

7. Availability is limited, applications that cannot be fulfilled will be given priority for future planting opportunities.

8. Trees planted on private property become the responsibility of the property owner. NTC will provide care instructions to all tree recipients.

9. Limit 1 tree per household
