Westborough in the 1950's: Question 2 - Farms, Orchards, Dairies, and Greenhouses
Agriculture was an important part of Westborough life in the 1950's and in many ways it still is. Tell us some of your memories about farms, orchards, dairies, and greenhouses in Westborough, both in the 1950's and today.

Starter Questions:
For those who lived in Westborough in the 1950's: Was agriculture important to daily life in Westborough in the 1950’s? Did you grow up on a farm or know someone who did? Did you ever get the chance to enjoy Westborough-produced food? If so, how did you get it? What do you remember most about eating (or drinking) it? Were there opportunities to buy or pick the food out in the fields in the way that there is today? Did your family have a garden? What did you grow?

For those who did NOT live in Westborough in the 1950’s: How do you take advantage of the farms and greenhouses in Westborough today? Now that spring is here, what produce do you look forward to eating most? Do you have any fond memories that took place on any of Westborough’s farms, orchards, greenhouses (or local ice cream stands!)? Do you tend a garden or are thinking of starting one, given our quarantine situation? What are you thinking about growing?

Westborough in the 1950's Project Background
The Westborough History Working Group at the Westborough Public Library is teaming up with Westborough TV to create programming and an eventual film on Westborough in the 1950’s, and we need your help. Over the next few months, we will be gathering from the Westborough community photographs, memories, images of ephemera, and other information about what it was like to live in Westborough during this formative decade.

As part of this information gathering, we are asking people to submit their memories about life in the 1950's--whether you lived in Westborough during this time or not. If you were not alive during the 1950's or were too young to remember, then perhaps you can use this question to interview someone who did, do some research to try to answer the question a different way, or talk about your own experience in today's context.

We will be posting more questions and other activities relating to this project in the upcoming weeks.
