Directors will determine whether the absence is excused or not.

From the Band Handbook:

• All absences must be approved in advance (24 hours for a rehearsal, two weeks for a performance – in writing from a parent/guardian) using the ROHS Band Absence Request Form.

Three unexcused tardies will result in an unexcused absence, which will also result in the suspension of one performance. If a student accumulates an unexcused absence, they will not be allowed to participate in the football performance for that corresponding week, and may, at the directors’ discretion, be removed from the contest show altogether. Missing a performance because of the attendance policy will result in a zero for that performance.

WORK
Students who hold part-time jobs should make the appropriate arrangements with employers in order to be able to attend all rehearsals and performances. WORK IS NOT AN EXCUSED ABSENCE! Employers are usually very good about scheduling if informed in advance. When you receive a calendar of events, be sure to provide your employer with a copy.

DRIVERS ED
Drivers Education is also NOT an excused absence. Eventually ALL of our students take this, but 99% of them work it out with no problems. Proper scheduling will ensure that there are no conflicts. Only through poor planning does this ever become a problem. Remember the 5P’s: Proper Planning Prevents Poor Performance.

TRANSPORTATION
Students are responsible for their own transportation to rehearsals or to the school for performances. NOT HAVING A RIDE IS NEVER AN EXCUSE FOR MISSING REHEARSAL! There are plenty of people who will be willing to assist in providing transportation for you. If you cannot get a ride back to school for a performance, do not leave school. Make sure to have phone numbers handy in order to assist you in finding a ride if ever needed.

EXCUSED ABSENCES
All absences must be approved by directors in advance unless there is an emergency. Some examples of excused absences would be doctor visits, family emergencies (i.e. funerals, hospitals), and other UIL events (for students who are involved in multiple ROHS activities).
