CEILS FACULTY WORKSHOP ON BEST EQUITABLE PRACTICES IN TEACHING
* Date: September 14, 2022
* Location: Hershey Hall 158
Join us for the CEILS Annual Faculty Workshop on Best Equitable Practices in Teaching, leading off with a special welcome from the Deans of Life and Physical Sciences. This 1-day workshop will help you prepare for Fall classes by providing you with equitable teaching strategies that maximize success for all students.
This workshop is appropriate for everyone—new or veteran teachers—interested in learning more about equitable teaching practices based on education research. We especially encourage instructors who either are relatively new to college teaching or who have instructional responsibilities in large enrollment gateway courses for science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) majors.
Topics include effective course design, as well as student-centered teaching strategies that incorporate active learning and create equitable and inclusive classroom environments. Many of the instructional techniques focus on facilitating peer learning and other collaborative and group activities designed to support student success in large enrollment classes.
The format and emphasis of this day-long event has been modified from previous years, so even if you have participated in this workshop before, you might consider attending again and learning something new!

CEILS ACTIVE LEARNING BOOTCAMP
* Date: Sept. 15-16: 9:30am-4pm both days
* Location: Hershey Hall 158
After our day-long Faculty Workshop, we've gotten feedback that participants wished they had more time to actually practice active learning approaches they're considering for their courses.
In this Bootcamp, you will learn about and practice an array of instructional approaches to actively engage your students in their learning and collaboratively with one another, discussing how each approach can be adapted to small and large class sizes. Then, you will get support in figuring out how to actually implement these in your own course, designing specific questions and group activities to fit your course goals.
(If you've attended a week-long summer institute in the past, this is a great refresher and additional practice!)
