The Minnesota Indian Teacher Training Program (MITTP) prepares American Indian students who are pursuing a degree or certification in field of education. MITTP provides grants and student support for American Indian students. MITTP is available through MN statute 122A.63, subd. 1, which states, “A grant program is established to assist American Indian people to become teachers and to provide additional education for American Indian teachers.”
Please read the following information to ensure you are eligible to submit an application for the MITTP scholarship:
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
- Must be American Indian and have tribal enrollment or be able to prove first or second generation (parent or grandparent is enrolled) descendant status
- Admitted to as an Augsburg University Undergraduate Day student, an Adult Undergraduate student, or Graduate student.
- Must be pursuing Elementary Education, Special Education, or Secondary Education major as an undergraduate or a Master’s in Education or Teaching as a Graduate student.
- Must have a GPA of 2.0
- Must complete the 2024-2025 FAFSA
- Must have financial needs that remain unmet after applying for federal and state financial aid and American Indian scholarships (i.e. Minnesota Indian Scholarship, tribal scholarships)
The priority deadline to apply for funding for the 2024-2025 academic year is July 12, 2024. We will still review applications on a rolling basis after that date. However it is first come first served so we cannot guarantee funding after the priority deadline.
