Re-opening Floodwood School
The district has formed a committee to begin to plan for the opening of school in the fall. The committee is using the guidance developed by the Minnesota Department of Education. The district will be developing three plans: Complete Distance Learning (as we did from March to June), Completely in the building as we would typically have school, and a Hybrid Model between Distance Learning and back in the building. The Distance Learning Plan will be similar to the plan in the spring with a few exceptions. The Back in the Building plan will be as we normally were in the building with additional expectations of social distances and other requirements from the state. The Hybrid Model will consist of learning in the building and learning from home. The committee has developed four (4) scenarios for the high school, (2) scenarios for grades PreK-2, and one (1) scenario for grades 3-6. Please review the High School and Elementary scenarios below.

It is our goal to have plans completed by the end of July for the Distance Learning Plan, Complete Back in the Building Plan, and Hybrid Plan.  Staff training and parent notification of the plans will begin in August.  We may not know what scenario will be recommended by the state in early August but you will know what the district’s response will be when the decision is made.

Knowing how parents feel about sending their children back to school is an important factor in our reopening plan.  Your opinions matter and we are interested in hearing them. If you can complete the survey by 8AM Wednesday, July 15th, that would be beneficial for our planning meetings this week. If you cannot get it done by then, we will still review your responses.

High School Scenarios
High School**
Scenario 1:Follows the current high school master schedule with 1/3 of the classes in the building each week. Each grade will be split into three groups and attend classes face-to-face for one week each. Those who are not in the building will be attending classes as scheduled via distance learning.

Scenario 2: Block schedule: The students will be in the building each day but with fewer transitions, longer classes, and fewer interactions. This schedule follows the current master schedule, but put into blocks that meet M/Th or T/F and every other Wednesday for TWO periods each and 7th period is a regular one hour class that meets every day.

Scenario 3: This schedule follows the HS master schedule. Grades would be separated into classrooms to meet the recommended number of students/adults. We would need para-professionals for supervision. Students would rotate classrooms on a staggered passing schedule.

Scenario 4: The schedule will run very closely to the way we run a regular day. The difference would be a three-week rotation. Week 1 would have 1/2 of the students from each class in the building and 1/2 of the students learning from home. Week 2 would flip the students. Those at home would be in the building. Those in school would learn from home. Week 3 would have all students from each grade at home attending virtually. Students in the building would have a staggered passing time.
Elementary Scenarios
Elementary**
Pre-K, Kindergarten, 1st grade and 2nd grade:
Option 1: Each class will be divided into 2 groups and will be in 2 different classrooms. The students will come to school everyday. On a rotating basis, one group in Pre-K, Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd will be with their teacher and the other group from each class will be with another staff member being taught virtually within the school building. Specialists will go to the classroom for instruction.

Option 2: Each class will stay in their classroom with their grade level teacher plus another staff member to help monitor students’ distancing from one another, proper mask usage, personal hygiene and more. This way they can get instruction directly from their teacher and not need to do instruction virtually. Specialists will go to the classroom for instruction.

3rd grade through 6th grade:
Students in 3rd through 6th grade will be divided into 3 groups and be in 3 different classrooms. This way we can maintain a small class size in all subjects and have them with a licensed teacher all day, everyday. Teachers will move between the classrooms and the students will stay for the different subjects throughout the school day.
**
If a family is not comfortable with sending their child to school in the building, virtual/distance learning will be available all day. Attendance is expected all day. If a child is not at school or not attending virtually, they will be marked absent.
