The mission of Chinatown Youth Initiatives (CYI) is to empower New York City youth with the knowledge and skills necessary to address the needs of Chinatown, Asian Americans, and other underrepresented communities.  By providing a safe and supportive environment, CYI works to build a legacy of leaders who strengthen awareness of community issues through project initiatives.

One of CYI’s core events is the annual Chinatown Beautification Day! What began as a mission to address the concerns of the negligence of post 9/11’s Lower East Side has since then evolved into a two part event that brings youth from all around the city to participate in a unique learning experience. The conference in the past consists of a large-scale clean up day to show communities the unique passion and power of youth paired with a full day conference for students to learn and explore the social justice issues and experiences that they are interested in or already passionate about.
