EMS Songwriting Class Registration
We will be offering two different class levels this fall: one for more basic songwriting, and one for more advanced musicians.
In order to thrive in our basic songwriting course, students should be proficient in the following areas:
Able to read notes fluently in the treble clef
Able to understand rhythmic notation consisting of whole, half, quarter, and eighth notes/rests
Able to recognize the difference between major and minor triads (chords)
In order to thrive in our advanced songwriting course, students should be proficient in the following areas:
Able to read notes in the treble and bass clef
Able to understand rhythmic notation consisting of whole, half, quarter, eighth, and sixteenth notes/rests
Able to recognize the differences among major, minor, diminished, and augmented triads (chords)
Able to recognize the 24 major and minor keys
Able to understand/perform basic major and minor scales
Have a working knowledge of chord names/functions within keys (Example: Tonic, Dominant, Subdominant, etc)
