TITLE: Educational Field Instructor (EFI)

REPORTS TO: Program Manager / Program Coordinator

POSITION TERM: ◻ PT ◻ FT ☑ On-site ☑ Multi-seasonal ☑ On-call ◻ Temp

POSITION SUMMARY:
During the fall and spring, EFIs teach Outdoor STEM Centered Education (OSCE) during residential camps at either Tonto Creek Camp (Payson) or Chauncey Ranch (Mayer).  This could be for one or two days. Also opportunity exist to teach from our Mobile STEM Discovery Lab which goes directly to school and rec. programs during school, after school programs and summer programs.   Selected individuals will undergo orientation and training with TCC, which will include classroom and field-based program observation.

COMPENSATION:
EFIs could earn on average $100 per day plus $85 travel reimbursement.  Mileage isn’t applicable to local residents. EFI’s are provided on-site housing accommodations if teaching more than one day and meals.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW:
OSCE is a fun, fast-paced outdoor education program.  Pathways to Learning utilizes an instructional design to experientially teach and challenge youth in the fields of science, technology, engineering, math, environmental ethics, outdoor skills, teambuilding, and leadership. Our curriculum covers a broad selection of themes and topics such as engineering & physics, leadership & team building, adaptations, landforms, energy, and life-science to name a few. The curriculum fosters critical-thinking, personal and social growth.  Over the past eight years, 240 schools, 1,440 teachers and 21,000 campers from Metro Phoenix and rural Arizona communities have participated in OSCE

RESPONSIBILITIES:
OSCE-based studies include leading trail groups of 15-20 students through a variety of field-based activities (problem solving, earth science, watershed science, natural systems, etc.) during ½ day and full day sessions.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES CAN INCLUDE:
  School visits throughout the state
  Mobile STEM Discovery Labs at schools
  Community engagement events

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  Must be 21 years of age  
  Experience and enjoyment working with youth of all background
  Desire to learn and explore the world and environment around them
  Availability 15-30 hours per month
  Minimum commitment of 4-6 sessions
