GMS Chromebook Request Form
For students in need of a school issued device please complete this request form. If your student already has a computer/laptop/chromebook they can and want to use, completion of this form is not necessary.

Acceptable Use, Policy, Procedures, and Information
Completion of this form signifies you agree to the following terms and conditions set forth by Gadsden City Schools.

DAMAGES: Chromebooks are not insured, Students/Parents are responsible for full payment for damages to Chromebooks.

1. TAKING CARE OF YOUR CHROMEBOOK
Students are responsible for the general care of the Chromebook they have been issued by the school. Chromebooks that are broken or fail to work properly should be taken to the student’s teacher or principal.
1.1 General Precautions
• The Chromebook is school property and all users will follow this policy and the GADSDEN CITY SCHOOLS acceptable use policy for technology.
• Only use a clean, soft cloth to clean the screen, NO cleansers or liquids of any type.
• Cords and cables must be inserted carefully into the Chromebook to prevent damage.
• Chromebooks must remain free of any writing, drawing, stickers, or labels that are not the property of GADSDEN CITY SCHOOLS.
1.2 Carrying Chromebooks
Students will be responsible for all damage or loss caused by neglect or abuse while carrying the device. The guidelines below should be followed:
• The student should keep the Chromebook assigned to them in their possession at all times.
• No other items should be stored or carried within the Chromebook to avoid pressure and weight on the
screen.
1.3 Screen Care
The Chromebook screens can be damaged if subjected to rough treatment. The screens are particularly sensitive to damage from excessive pressure on the screen.
• Do not lean on the top of the Chromebook when it is closed.
• Do not place anything near the Chromebook that could put pressure on the screen.
• Do not place anything in the Chromebook that will press against the screen.
• Clean the screen with a soft, dry cloth or anti-static cloth.
• Take care not to bump the Chromebook against lockers, walls, car doors, floors, etc., as it will
eventually break the screen.

2. USING YOUR CHROMEBOOK AT SCHOOL AND HOME
Chromebooks are intended for use at school and home each day. In addition to teacher expectations for Chromebook use, school messages, announcements, calendars, and schedules may be accessed using the Chromebook. Students must be responsible to bring their Chromebook to all classes, unless specifically instructed not to do so by their teacher.
2.1 Screensavers/Background photos
• Inappropriate media may not be used as a screensaver or background photo.
• Presence of guns, weapons, pornographic materials, inappropriate language, alcohol, drug, gang related
symbols or pictures will result in disciplinary actions.
• Only gadsdencityschools.org Google accounts are to be used on the Chromebook.
2.2 Sound, Music, Games, or Programs
• Sound must be muted at all times in the classroom unless permission is obtained from the teacher for instructional purposes.
• Students are responsible for providing their own Headphones/Earbuds.
2.3 Charging Chromebooks
Students are responsible for charging Chromebooks at home or placing the Chromebook in the charging cart and plugging in the cable at the end of the school day. If a student checks out of school early, the Chromebook should be taken to the classroom where their charging cart is located.

3. MANAGING YOUR FILES & SAVING YOUR WORK
3.1 Saving on the Chromebook
Student work on the Chromebooks will be saved in Google Drive. It is the student’s responsibility to ensure that work is not lost due to mechanical failure or accidental deletion. Chromebook malfunctions are not an acceptable excuse for not submitting work. Teachers will instruct students on methods of managing workflow.
3.2 Network Connectivity
The GADSDEN CITY SCHOOLS School District makes no guarantee that their network will be up and running 100% of the time. In the rare case that the network is down, the District will not be responsible for lost or missing data.

4. SOFTWARE ON CHROMEBOOKS
4.1 Originally Installed Software
The software/apps originally installed by GADSDEN CITY SCHOOLS must remain on the Chromebook in usable condition and be easily accessible at all times. From time to time the school may add software applications for use in a particular course. The licenses for this software require that the software be deleted from Chromebooks at the completion of the course. Periodic checks of Chromebooks will be made to ensure that students have not removed required apps.
4.2 Additional Software
Students are not allowed to load extra software/Apps on their Chromebooks. GADSDEN CITY SCHOOLS will
manage the Chromebooks so that they contain the necessary apps for school work. Students will not manage Chromebooks or add apps to their assigned Chromebook, including synching to home or personal Google
accounts.
4.3 Inspection
Students may be selected at random to provide their Chromebook for inspection. Chromebooks are the
property of GADSDEN CITY SCHOOLS School District, and any staff member may confiscate any Chromebook at
any time for any purpose.
4.4 Procedure for re-loading software
If technical difficulties occur or illegal software, non-GADSDEN CITY SCHOOLS installed apps are discovered, the Chromebook will be restored to factory settings. The school does not accept responsibility for the loss of any software or documents deleted due to a reformat and reimage.

5. ACCEPTABLE USE
The use of the GADSDEN CITY SCHOOLS School District’s technology resources is a privilege, not a right. The privilege of using the technology resources provided by GADSDEN CITY SCHOOLS is not transferable or extendible by students to people or groups outside the district and terminates when a student is no longer enrolled in the GADSDEN CITY SCHOOLS.
Students will follow the Acceptable Use Policy that is in the Student Handbook signed at the beginning of the school year. Failure to do so will result in the students’ loss of use of the Chromebook.
