2025 PSEG ISS Green Teams Program: Corporate/Government/Non-profit Application

Thank you for your interest in the PSEG Institute for Sustainability Studies (PSEG ISS) Green Teams Program. The PSEG ISS Green Teams are transdisciplinary teams of students who serve corporations, organizations, non-profits, municipalities, and community groups to address substantial sustainability issues. The PSEG ISS Green Teams Program is a multi-institutional internship program targeted to upper-level undergraduates (exceptional rising sophomores may also be considered) from any discipline who are interested in sustainability. Teams of 5 students are constructed from the pool of exceptional applicants coming from many different disciplines and multiple institutions, and whose backgrounds match those required to achieve deliverables requested by the hosting organizations. To ensure students are well-positioned to produce high-quality deliverables, PSEG ISS provides training throughout the course of the Program in core sustainability subjects, hands-on experience with sustainability skills, guidance in professional development and communication, and team building.

The program runs from May 27th, 2025 - August 6th, 2025. The 2025 program aspires to utilize a 100% in-person modality. However, PSEG ISS is flexible for hosting organizations that may need to utilize a virtual format due to internal restrictions.

In regards to the modality of the Green Teams Program, which of the following formats would you prefer to operate in? *

This question just stands as a means to gain some insight into individual comfort levels to help guide the decision the PSEG Institute for Sustainability Studies will implement within the State of New Jersey's guidelines.

What problems or questions would you like the undergraduate students to address for your company? *

Carbon Footprint: Create or utilize carbon calculators, assess baseline carbon footprint, and develop additional strategies to reduce your carbon footprint

Emissions: Implementation of energy-efficient technologies, development of a carbon offset program, and the integration of renewable energy sources into operations.

Climate Risk Assessment: Examine climate change trends and future scenarios, and research into the likelihood, consequence, frequency, and impact of each hazard type

Sustainability Reporting: Communicate sustainability issues to external stakeholders through sustainability reporting formats such as the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), Carbon Footprint Registry (CFR), ESG, TCFD, TNFD, CDP, ISO, IRF, SASB, GRESB, ICLEI ClearPath, etc.

Certification Applications: Assistance with the development of applications for certifications such as ISCC, EPEAT, Safer Choice, WELL, Green Seal, TRUE Zero Waste, WasteWise, New Jersey Sustainable Business Registry, LEED, etc.

Energy Efficiency: Quantification of energy use and proposed ways to increase energy efficiency

Return on Investment (ROI): Analyze costs and associated time to recover costs of proposed sustainability projects

Environmental Assessment: Determine how your company is impacting the environment and ways to reduce it (contamination, waste, soils, water, vegetation, pollinators, avian populations, etc.)

Internal Communications and Infographics: Share best practices and engage employees for improving sustainability in the workplace (reduce water, energy, and waste, increase recycling, etc.)

Waste and Recycling: Examine current waste and recycling practices and make recommendations for change, to engage, and inform employees

Water Usage: Determine relative sources of water usage, quantify amounts, develop a plan for reduction of water use

Competitor Analysis: Complete a sustainability competitor analysis to identify areas of strengths and opportunities for improvement

Supply Chain and Procurement: Create sustainable procurement criteria, an environmentally preferable purchasing plan, and strategies to help improve sustainability in the supply chain

Environmental Policy: Create an environmental policy statement for your company

Profitability: Learn how your company can infuse sustainability throughout to make real changes in the bottom line

Marketing and Branding: Develop strategies to market sustainable products and services

What is your preferred meeting day/time to connect with team? Mondays and Thursdays are the teams' field trip and training days. The University is closed on Fridays and only in exceptional situations can students work Fridays, Saturdays or Sundays as many students have significant financial need and need to maintain their academic year jobs during the course of the internship by working on those days. Meetings will occur at the launch event in the first week, then beginning regularly from weeks 3-9 to provide time for training in week 2. *

A Green Team costs $60,000. Projects completed generally save organizations an excess of $250,000. Are you able to pay a portion of the cost for a Green Team? If so, please indicate an amount. We do have a limited number of grants available. We will also work with those not able to cover full costs to identify funding sources, particularly non-profit organizations and municipalities.
