Hello, my name is Vivian Herrera, I am the Civic Engagement Director for the 2023-24 academic year. This year I will be leading the Civic Engagement Committee/Coalition. To join the committee, it is recommended you read the following text below to get a good understanding of how the team functions and what YOU will be working on this academic year :)
What is the Civic Engagement Committee (ABRV-> CEC.)?
The Civic Engagement Committee is a branch of the Office of ASUCR's Vice President of External Affairs. The committee emphasizes the Civic Engagement efforts of UCR and UC Students. The CEC is nonpartisan, which means we do not have any political affiliation. Civic Engagement includes voting, protesting, volunteering, and much more! The CEC's main mission is to keep highlanders informed and open opportunities for students to stay civically engaged. Civics is key!
What does the Civic Engagement Committee do?
This academic year, the committee will focus on voter registration and voting information for the 2022 California Midterm Elections. Along with the election, we will be advocating for a Non-Penalizing Day on Election Day, volunteering efforts with local non-profit organizations, expanding campus resources, and much more.
What will your role in Civic Engagement Committee be?

General Member (∞):
Attend meetings, provide support for events, contribute ideas for projects and increase student
engagement, and outreach for voter initiatives. Committee Members have the opportunity to join
the coordinators on pods that focused on specific efforts such as education & programming
and coalition outreach.
Available Board Member positions w/ description
Executive Assistant Director (1)
The Executive Assistant Director’s purpose is to create slideshow presentations and weekly agenda for our meetings!!!! During committee time, we will be dropping in and out of breakout rooms. Take notes on the agendas you create and make sure we create action items by the end of the meeting. We will always recap towards the end of meetings to make sure everyone is on task and has soft deadlines.
Responsibilities
- Creating slideshows presentations and agendas for weekly meeting
- Dropping in and out of breakout rooms
- Taking notes on the agendas created — create action items towards the end of meetings
- Recap on the end of meetings to ensure productivity and reaching deadlines
Executive Board Program & Education Co-Coordinator (2)
The programming and education position's purpose is to share and create new ideas to increase our student body’s civic engagement efforts !!! Responsibilities
- Responsible for leading a team of general members
- Responsible for visually appealing and consistent graphics for events, announcement, etc.
- Hosting break room session with general members to collaboratively create ideas on future events while building connections + developing new skills
-Responsible for hosting events with orgs, elected officials, etc.
Executive Board Outreach Director (1)
The Executive Board Outreach Coordinator’s purpose is to maintain contacts and focus on external outreach efforts. At the beginning of each academic year, our committee will collaborate with new coalition partners, therefore you’ll be tasked with creating google forms/sheets to contact organizations and track coalitions partnerships.
Responsibilities
- Maintain + Track contacts of coalition partnerships, organizations, elected officials, etc
- Responsible for logistically arranging files/docs through the committee google drive
