Enrollment in practicum is selective. It is based on the availability of practicum sites and an appropriate match between the student and available sites. Interested students must apply and a practicum must be arranged before you are allowed to enroll in the course.
REVIEW OF APPLICATIONS BEGINS 1 WEEK BEFORE REGISTRATION.
To apply, you need to do the following:
1. Fully complete this application form.
2. Make an appointment with Dr. Jeppsen (
bjeppsen.youcanbook.me) to discuss your practicum interests in more detail.
3. Contact 2 Augustana faculty/staff members who know you in a professional capacity (as your professor and/or supervisor) who you think would be willing to recommend you. One can be a psychology professor, but at least one should come from outside of psychology. Explain to them what the course is / why you want to take it, and tell them when the deadline is (figure out the date that corresponds to one week before registration begins) and ask them if they would be willing to give you a recommendation. If they agree, please ask them to fill out the online form here while logged into their Augie Google account:
https://forms.gle/atJj6rxPiZkxmncC9.
Applications are considered complete when these materials have all been received.
We will begin reviewing completed applications 1 week prior to registration, and will contact you by email to inform you whether your application has been accepted. As practicum arrangements off campus often take time to arrange, it is recommended that you enroll in a "backup" class (even if you have been accepted for practicum) in the event that we are unable to find a placement for you. This class should be one that you want to take and will be useful, but you could replace with PSYC 391 without causing long-term problems for your academic plan. Once a practicum placement has been established and we have reliable confirmation from your site supervisor, you will be authorized to enroll in PSYC 391 and drop your backup class.
