2024 AMFS Mariachi Workshop - Adult Participant/Auditor Request Form
New this year! The Aspen Music Festival and School’s Mariachi Workshop will offer FREE educational auditing opportunities on July 21-24 for current/future music educators, family members, and other community members to learn more about mariachi education by observing, collaborating with each other, and playing as part of the final workshop performance on July 24. We'd love to have you join us to learn more about mariachi music and culture. Three levels of adult participant or auditing options are included below. No prior knowledge in mariachi music is required. Come join us!

This program includes:
  • Active full-group rehearsals and technique-building sessions for teaching mariachi music on both traditional mariachi instruments (vihuela, guitarrón, violin, guitar, trumpet, and voice) and non-traditional mariachi instruments alike
  • Instructional breakouts with instrument specialists from across Colorado and local music educators
  • Keynote presentations on the tradition and historical evolution of mariachi folk music
  • Intergenerational learning opportunities
  • Daily end-of-day meetings with all workshop music mentors
  • A featured performance in Aspen's Klein Music Tent as part of the AMFS's Community Concert alongside Denver-based professional ensemble Mariachi Sol de mi Tierra and Aspen Santa Fe Ballet Folklòrico
  • Lots of fun, friendship, community building, and more!
We are excited to have Michael Linert (michaellinert.com) alongside a musical mentor team of Denver-based and local Roaring Fork Valley music educators, teaching artists, and AMFS college musicians back again this year to take the lead on this workshop and performance. The repertoire will include the following three newly commissioned Multi-Level Masterpiece (michaellinert.com/mlm) arrangements by Michael Linert: "Los Machetes", "Las Golondrinas", and "La Bamba". The concert will conclude with a grand finale performance of "Cielito Lindo" with all the performers and the audience.
