This is a supportive conversation group that we have created in collaboration between the student representatives of the Johan Skytte Institute of Political Studies, and the UT Counselling Center. In order to offer students the opportunity to vent, share joys, and meet new people.
What are our core values?
❁ One of the most important principles is the equal standing of all participants - we are all here primarily as people. Some of us have a slightly more moderating and guiding role, but the facilitators are also participants themselves.
❁ Confidentiality - we may share our experiences, emotions and lessons, but not recognizable facts about the participants outside the group.
❁ We believe in wanting the best for each other, and respecting each other's needs.
❁ We take space & give space - we take care of ourselves, and if necessary we set boundaries but we try to step out of our comfort zones, try new things, and communicate with new people.
❁ We stand up for our needs - both emotional and practical.
PRACTICAL INFORMATION
How exactly? Conversation groups are held once every 2 weeks for 6 times total. The group size is small to ensure a safe environment (12 total). Each meeting starts with a structured opening circle, followed by an open discussion where everyone can participate as much as they want, and it ends with a positive closing circle. You should attend as many meetings as possible, but agreed upon exceptions are perfectly fine. However, the more permanent the composition of the group, the better the group will work and the more there is to gain from being together!
When? This spring semester, we are opening 1 supportive discussion group (you can join later as well). The exact date depends on the votes you cast down below. =)
To whom? UT students are welcome to the conversation group, regardless of their level of study and major.
Who conducts? Conversation rounds are lead by students Yurii Kondratyk and Siim Andres
Where is it happening? Tartu, Johan Skytte Institute of Political Studies. Once the date is set we will contact your given email.
