About FIRST LEGO League (Explore)
FIRST LEGO League (FLL) Explore introduces students, ages 8 to 10 (entering grades 2 to 3), to the fun and excitement of science and technology. We, Sycamore Robotics, invite participation in FLL at Sycamore Community Schools for rising 2nd through 3rd graders. (More advanced FIRST programs are available for rising 4th through 12th graders)

Guided by adult coaches and FIRST LEGO League values, students build models using LEGO® Education WeDo 2.0 sets and create Show Me posters to present what they learned. The program focuses on building interest in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) through a real-world challenge—to be solved by research, critical thinking, and imagination. FLL Core Values include teamwork and “gracious professionalism.”

FIRST LEGO League (Explore) Teams
FLL Explore teams are forming now for the 2023-2024 season for upcoming 2nd and 3rd graders at all four elementary buildings at Sycamore Community Schools. Teams will meet starting in August/Sept for one to two hours per week (either one day or multiple days of the week), go on field trips, and have individual at-home assignments, depending on the coaches’ instructions. Each team will also participate in an FLL Expo (date to be determined by expo hosts and chosen by teams based on coaches’ and members’ availability).
Application Instructions
This application must be filled out in its entirety to be considered for a position on an FLL Explore team. There are limited spots (up to 6 students per team), so the application will be used to evaluate students’ level of interest. If the number of interested applicants exceeds the number of positions, then a lottery system may be used.

Applications are due by Sunday, May 21st, 2023 for regular registration and by Sunday, June 11th, 2023 for late registration. Participation involves a cost of $75  per student (on-time) or $95 (with late fee) to cover the registration fee, tournament fee, T-shirts, and supplies. Assistance is available for applicants with financial needs.
