Time to get to work pressuring our lawmakers in Austin, y'all! We are looking for a team of volunteers to hand deliver fact sheets and other handouts to every office in the Texas Capitol. We're also looking for volunteers to visit their State Rep and State Senator's district offices to deliver handouts/factsheets. No experience needed. Here are the details:
Time/Date of next lit drop: Thursday, March 23, 1-3pm. (If you can't make it this time, sign up anyway so we can share the next one with you!)
Physical requirements: If you're part of the Austin crew, the Capitol should be ADA compliant, but expect to spend about one hour going down the halls of the Capitol to deliver fact sheets to each legislative office. For district offices, check with your State Rep or State Senator by phone to make sure the office is ADA compliant (we're happy to check for you too!).
Location: For Capitol/Austin volunteers, we will meet in the main rotunda. For volunteers delivering materials to district offices, you can look up where it is through these links:
House directory,
Senate directory.
Preparation: You do not need to be an expert on the issues contained in the fact sheets and handouts. However, you may get questions from legislative staff (or if you're lucky, the elected official if they're nearby!) about what you're giving them. So before we leave to deliver them, each volunteer should read through the content carefully to get the basics. Any question you cannot answer, please refer the person to Sierra Club's lobby team (Alex Ortiz for water issues, Cyrus Reed for energy and all other inquiries). Their contact information will be on the handout too!
