This program will teach you how to "walk your equity talk," by sharing with you the principles of practice behind our Latinx-centered, collectivist facilitation model. We created this model over last decade leading hundreds of discussions in over 50 institutions with both faculty, staff and administrator groups.
ESCALA's facilitator team will share the protocols and planning steps we routinely use to create successful facilitation. For example, we will share how we create containers for equitizing speaking and listening, and give advice on how you can design engaging discussions and learning experiences for participants with varying levels of readiness and exposure to Hispanic Serving work. We will also hold space for talking about the complexities of being a facilitator of conversations about Latinx students with majority white audiences, and how we contain derailers and detractors in live situations. You'll have time to also find ways to craft a safe space for yourself while facilitating that protects your expertise and expands your joy for facilitating your own colleagues.
This is an intentionally small and cohort-based program so that you have opportunities to fine tune your own practices and apply the principles to your own work situation. Our goal in offering this program is for us to share our hard-earned lessons about facilitation with you in order to create a network of culturally responsive facilitators across HSIs.
