The Maigue Rivers Trust is a Charity and CLG that focuses on collaborating with our local communities, landowners, and businesses who want to protect and enhance our rivers so we have a healthy environment for ourselves and all the wildlife that depend on the rivers.
The tourism industry is a major contributor to the Limerick economy and some of the reasons tourists come and stay in Limerick are for angling, hunting, and enjoyment of our natural environment.
The Maigue Rivers Trust wants to collaborate with local tourism businesses to develop and promote a suite of sustainable good hygiene practices that help protect our natural wildlife from invasive species and pathogens. By protecting wildlife we protect many of the reasons why tourists come to Limerick.
The associated preventative hygiene material costs are low (Disinfectant - Virkon, Milton, spray bottle, brush, bucket); the main change being asked is to be aware of good hygiene practice and how to effectively clean equipment.
Currently, the Trust is applying to the LEADER programme to cover the cost of developing and designing a training programme and associated information material. In order to put together a good application we need to consult with you, the target audience, to ascertain current knowledge of hygiene measures aimed at protecting native wildlife.
