Dictation #5: pat /pæt/ vs. pad /pæd/
Write the spelling of each item labeled "a" (e.g. "pat"), and the IPA spelling between slashes (e.g. /pæt/) for each item labeled "b."
The vowel will ALWAYS be /æ/ (use copy-and-paste), spelled "a".
The final sound of each item will ALWAYS be either voiceless "t" /t/ or voiced "d" /d/. Listen for VOWEL LENGTH; when the vowel is LONGER, the next sound will be VOICED.
There is a new IPA symbol in example c/d.: voiced /ð/ as in "that" /ðæt/.
For the "c"/"k"/"ck" sound as in "cat", "kite" and "sick", always use /k/.
But note that there are NO "K"s in the SPELLINGS! (Only in the IPA.)
The "g" sound in "get" is always /g/.
Use only LOWER-CASE LETTERS, even for names and other proper nouns.
