Encinitas Lifesaving Association Tuition Scholarship: 2024 Application

Hello ELA Members! Thanks for giving us the opportunity to help support your ongoing lifesaving education. Take a read through the requirements here, then tell us a bit about your education plans using the form below. Applications for the 2024 year are due April 15, 2024, with grants confirmed by May 15, 2024. Terms, Conditions, and Requirements

The Encinitas Lifesaving Association (ELA) provides tuition assistance reimbursement opportunities to all  members in good standing for coursework and training which satisfies one, or both, of the following: 

Provides necessary skills and education which improves public safety skills/knowledge of the  individual and will be used in the course of their duties as an employee within the City of  Encinitas Marine Safety Division (i.e. swiftwater rescue, beach driving, rescue vessel operations, ropes, low angle rescue operations, emergency medical technician, Etc.). 

College coursework which is directly related to obtaining a degree applicable in providing  professional safety service to the public, excluding general education requirements (i.e. college courses directly tied to fire safety, paramedic, criminal justice, or other A.A. or B.S. degrees). 

The ELA will award up to $1,000 in tuition assistance during the 2024 calendar year to eligible applicants. Funding for the ELA Tuition Assistance program and the youth Scholarship Fund are made available  through the generous sponsors of the ELA tide board and proceeds from other ELA fundraisers and projects. The  ELA cannot guarantee full reimbursement for all expenses. Monetary assistance to each individual  application is provided based on a scoring process and the overall need of the entire membership  population. 

Members interested in seeking tuition assistance must complete the following:

Note that, if you are selected as a recipient, you may also need to submit the following prior to ELA providing  reimbursement based on the agreement: 

  • Submit a copy of your receipt from the college or institution where the training was completed
  • Submit a copy of the certificate of completion
  • Submit a copy of your most recent City of Encinitas Pay Stub

Attestation 

By typing my name (first, last) below, I attest that: I have read and understand the “Terms and Conditions” of the  Encinitas Lifesaving Association (ELA) Scholarship as explained above. I affirm I plan to continue to maintain employment, in good standing, with the City of Encinitas, Marine Safety Division and/or plan to  pursue a career in public safety service as defined in these documents. I give permission to the ELA  Board and the Scholarship Committee to request submittal of transcripts of academic record and other  information for consideration in the ELA Public Safety Employee Tuition Assistance Program. I  understand this application will only be available to qualified ELA committee members who need to  review it in the course of their duties. I waive the right to access letters of recommendation written on  my behalf. If selected as an ELA Tuition Assistance award recipient I agree to remain a member of the ELA for no less than 12- months after the monetary award is provided to me, to remain a lifeguard in  good standing with the City of Encinitas and be available to work for a minimum of 12 months after a certificate of completion is provided by the training entity and/or if the tuition assistance is provided for  coursework which provides opportunities in the field of full-time professional public safety to  demonstrate a pursuit of job placement in the specific field I have studied for a minimum of two-years  or until hired, whichever is soonest. I understand that if I do not fulfill the obligations above I must pay  back the entirety of the funds granted upon notification. I affirm all of the application is my own work  and the information contained herein is true and accurate to the best of my knowledge and belief.
