High Holidays 2020 class absence
Please complete the below form to request an email be sent from the Dean of Students to your professor to make them aware of your observance of the upcoming High Holidays. Please complete a separate form for each professor/class.

Note that you do not *have* to complete this form to be legally excused from participation for High Holiday observance. SUNY Geneseo Hillel students have written a guide that includes sample conversations and copy/paste emails to send to your professors on your own: https://www.geneseo.edu/hillel/highholidayobservancehowto

The email will read as follows:

NAME, a student in your class has reported that they will be observing religious holidays on September 18-20 and September 27-28. New York State Education Law Section 224-a requires accommodation of students who miss courses due to religious observations, including making “available to each student who is absent from school, because of his or her religious beliefs, an equivalent opportunity to make up any examination, study or work requirements which he or she may have missed because of such absence on any particular day or days”. The full policy on religious observances and a link to commonly-observed holidays is available at https://www.geneseo.edu/apca/classroom-policies and was previously shared with faculty in the "Beginning of semester memo on policies and procedures” circulated by the Provost’s Office on August 24.
