Next year, GIS is going to launch a peer program that matches 6th graders with an incoming Kindergarten student. We're calling our 6th grade students
Game Changers, because it often only takes one strong connection to make school a really positive place for a young student. Our current 6th graders have been connecting with current Kindergarten students on art projects, and it has been a phenomenal experience for both grades. We want to expand this idea to include more parts of the school day.
Game Changers Will:
- Be a friend and role model for their Kindergarten student.
- Support Kindergarten students with learning the building and playground.
- Learn about the bus.
- Have an opportunity to become a leader in our school.
- Have lunch bunches throughout the year with their Kindergarten student.
- Enjoy some special field trips together.
- Create art
- Have some time with Mrs. H and Kindergarten teacher(s) to ask questions, learn about their role, and earn a certificate of achievement with their 6th grade diploma.
- Get a free T-shirt/sweatshirt
If your current 5th grader is interested in becoming a Game Changer, please let me know!
