Bolton Hill Traffic Calming (Lafayette & Laurens) feedback form

At the January 3 BHCA Board meeting, a Baltimore City Department of Transportation (DOT) representative indicated that DOT had accepted Councilmember Costello's and BHCA's recommendations to add traffic calming on Laurens and Lafayette across Bolton Hill.* DOT said they will present a plan in mid-February to early March, but in the meantime, it would be helpful for them to know what types of intervention are preferred.

Here is some information on possible interventions, courtesy of the National Association of City Transportation Officials (NACTO) Urban Street Design Guide, which shows graphics and descriptions of a wide array of traffic calming devices.

The ones I think are most relevant to Bolton Hill are (click hyperlinks; make sure to scroll down on each page to see the different options after the general descriptions):

·       Vertical Speed Control Elements (speed humps, tables, or cushions -- they are different! McMechen has humps. Bumps -- not shown here -- are the small ones you might find in a parking lot; those aren't really used in this context.)

·       Intersections (specifically options under "Minor Intersections")

·       Curb Extensions

Take a look at these, and/or other resources, and let the Traffic Committee know your input by Jan. 31, using the comment box below.

*Identified areas are Lafayette from Eutaw to Mt. Royal, and Laurens from Eutaw to its end at Park.
