Volunteer Opportunities at the Spiritual Life Center

Please review the following list to see where you would like to apply your gifts & talents as a volunteer at the Center.

"HIDDEN SERVANTS" PRAYER TEAM: Pray daily the prayer on the back of the "Our Lady of Wichita" holy card for those visiting the SLC; "Rosaries for our Guests" -- pick up a Rosary from the basket at the SLC, pray on it for "whomever will receive it," then return it to the SLC.

BANQUET SERVER: Set up, wait tables and clean up for various groups who have a banquet (serving times vary by group): lunch server (approx. 11 a.m.-1 p.m.), dinner server (approx. 5-7:30 p.m.)

HOSPITALITY: Welcome guests at they arrive (usually Friday nights, but some weekdays); show guests to rooms; assist with luggage; answer general questions about the Spiritual Life Center, the Diocese and Wichita.

HOUSEKEEPING: Assist with laundry and/or cleaning guest rooms when we have a "full house" turnover; ongoing special cleaning may include alter linens (as needed), window & ledges and under beds (easily-moveable); dusting/cleaning areas (weekly) includes Rock Chapel, Main Chapel and Bookshop, etc.

LANDSCAPING/GARDENING (mainly April through September; help is needed weekly): Responsible for the Cana Garden, both courtyards and the driveway entrance garden; Flower and plant care (most outside; plants inside need to be watered weekly); Brush and leaf removal, weeding, planting, mulching; Keep an eye on the John the Baptist Wilderness area, which is north of the Center - pick up any trash, make sure walking trails are clear, keep the two Marian shrines looking neat & tidy.

LIBRARY AIDE: Categorizing and shelving new books; care of existing volumes; housekeeping of library room.

PARISH REPRESENTATIVE: Help promote the Center within your parish; restore SLC brochures at your church.

SUNDAY RECEPTIONIST (8 a.m.-1 p.m. one Sunday per month): Greet visitors upon arrival and attend to their needs; focus on hospitality; give audio/visual and technology help to group leaders.

RETREAT HELPER (Possibly overnight; duties & hours vary by the weekend): Your main purpose is to assist the Center director, presenter, staff hostess and guests as needed 24 hours during a particular retreat or program.
