Entrants: Competitors may be of either sex and must be of the appropriate age for their class.. Competitors aged 15 or less must have consent from their parent or guardian to race.

Wheelbarrow Race Classes: 7 – 10 yrs; 11 – 15 yrs; Adults (16 yrs and over). Exhibition Business Class.

Event entry: Each entry consists of 1 wheelbarrow and 2 competitors. The wheelbarrow must have only 1 wheel and be propelled by the pusher alone. One person in the wheelbarrow.

Competitors Outfits: Competitors may wear, and are encouraged to wear, fancy dress (Saxon style preferable but not obligatory – all other thoughts welcome !). Competitors should be mindful of being able to participate comfortably in the “outfit” they are wearing.

Race Procedure: Heats will be run for each class. A pre-determined number will go forward to the Final.

Race Length: 7 – 10 years: 0.3km (0.2mi); 11 – 15 years: 0.4km (0.3mi); Adults (16 years and over) & Business

Awards: All race competitors will receive a St Cuthman’s Wheelbarrow Race medal. Finalists will receive prizes to third place; cup to winner of each Final.

Assembly: Competitors to assemble and register with the Race Manager at Race HQ from 1pm to 1.45pm. Location – High Street Car Park. At 2 pm a parade of all competitors & their wheelbarrows, proceeded by a band, will take place within Steyning High Street (which will be closed to all other traffic at that time). The Parade will culminate at the Steyning Memorial Playing Fields, where racing will start at approximately 3 pm.

Best “Dressed” Wheelbarrow: The two Best “dressed” Wheelbarrow competitions to be judged within the Parade with prize winners being announced on arrival at the Memorial Playing Fields. Prizes to third place. Business Class to be judged on “best dressed” theme related to their particular trade; remaining 3 classes judged overall on their chosen individual “best dressed” decoration.

Timing: The approximate race times are as follows:, 7 – 10 years at 3.00 pm; 11 -15 years at 3.30; Adults(16 years and over) at 4 pm; Business Exhibition Class – 4.30 pm. All timings are approximate and are subject to minor change.
