Dear TVUSD Parent/Guardian:
The Temecula Valley Unified School District offers a course of study on Sexual Health and it will be instructed in your child’s 8th grade Science class.
This course topic addresses many of the health issues students face or will face, in their lifetime. This comprehensive Sexual Health course is guided by several state laws including teaching that abstinence from sexual intercourse is the only 100% effective protection against unwanted teenage pregnancy, sexually transmitted diseases, and Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) when transmitted sexually. Comprehensive Sexual Health instruction content is required by AB 329, the California Healthy Youth Act. The topics to be addressed in this unit of study are as follows:
Puberty & Human Reproduction
Relationships
Bullying & Other Risky Behaviors
Human Trafficking
FDA-approved Contraceptive Methods
Sexual Abstinence
HIV/AIDS and STI Protection
Human Sexuality
Goal Setting & Decision Making
It is required that parents or guardians be notified prior to instruction. All written or audiovisual materials to be used in this instruction are available for inspection by parents or guardians.
