Suncoast is a very active PTSA! We are always looking for new members to join our team. Our goal is to build a diverse team that collaborates and communicates effectively to empower one another to advocate for all children.

Benefits of becoming a PTA Board Member:

● Get connected! There is no better way to know what's happening in our school.

● With a wide variety of opportunities to be involved, find a role that allows you to volunteer as much or as little as you're able.

● Some positions may even be done remotely in the convenience of your home.

● Get to know other parents and staff members who share similar goals and interests.

● Advocate for your own student(s) and all students at Suncoast HS!

We're here to help ensure your success! Current board members are available and eager to help by providing hands on support and guidance throughout your first year as well as compensation for local and state PTA training and development.

Studies by the National Education Association (NEA) show that students with engaged parents achieve higher grades and test scores, develop better social skills, adapt better to school and continue into post-graduate education more often.

Please keep in mind board members are expected to attend our monthly meetings (10 per year) and General Assemblies which are held three times per year in September, February and May.
*A person must be a general PTSA member of Suncoast PTSA BEFORE running for office. Memberships are $12 per person, per year (July1st-June 30th).

The following board positions are available for the 2024-2025 school year.

Executive Board Positions:
Nominees will be elected by a majority vote during our May General Assembly.

1. President- The President is elected and is one of the three required officers. The responsibilities of the PTSA President include (but not limited to);

Oversee and coordinate the work of an executive board to run a PTSA effectively
Preside at PTSA board and association meetings
Serve as the official contact, communicator and representative of a PTSA
Designated as an authorized signer for PTSA checks, contracts and authorizations for payment
Serve as ex-officio member of all committees except the nominating committee
Works with other PTA leaders to connect families, school and community to support student success.

2. Vice President(s)- The first vice president is called on first to preside in the absence of the president. If the first vice president is not available, then the second vice president is called on, etc. The Vice President roles are a valuable shadowing opportunity for someone who would be interested in becoming the PTSA President in future years. Our Vice Presidents usually take on a second role as a Chair/Co Chair or Committee Member. All VP roles are elected positions.

3. Recording Secretary- The Recording Secretary is elected and is one of the three required officers. They are the Official Record Keeper of the PTSA. Responsibilities include recording and preparing minutes (a brief summary) of each board meeting and General Assembly, and assisting the President in preparing meeting agendas if requested. This is a great starting role if you are new to PTSA or Suncoast!

4. Member at Large- The main role of a Member at Large is to provide support to the Executive Board and to act as an intermediary party between the Board and the rest of the membership. Members at Large attend, vote and participate in all board meetings and typically take on an additional role as a committee team member or lead. This is a great starting role if you are new to PTSA or Suncoast!

*Please note: A person shall not serve more than two consecutive terms in the same office on the Executive Board.

All of our other open positions are for Committee Chairs/Co-Chairs which will be appointed shortly after our May 14th General Assembly. Please let us know if you are interested in joining any of the following committees;

Membership Co-Chair- Year Round but mainly April, July-September

Spirit Store Co-Chair- Year Round but only on campus 1-2 times per month

Business Partnership Chair- Year Round but mainly July-November (can be done remotely)

Student Liaison- We're looking for a student in grades 9-12 who can help promote student membership and share ideas, events between PTSA and the student body. *Attending meetings is required.

Special Event Chairs:

Freshman Orientation- typically first week of August

Project Graduation- February-May

College Fair- October (Planning from July-October)

Freshman Ice Cream Social Event- mid April

Spirit Night- 2-3 events per year

Reflections Chair- August-November
