2022 Mill River Park Stewardship Program Application
Overview:

**Due to ongoing concerns with the COVID-19 pandemic, certain aspects of this program have been altered to align with social distancing guidelines and the safety of all Park employees.**

The Mill River Stewards, a paid high school internship program, is an opportunity for young adults who live in Stamford to learn firsthand conservation practices, environmental stewardship, college and career readiness skills, and how all this connects to the ecology of Mill River Park. Stewards will spend a majority of the summer completing various conservation and land care projects, cataloging native and invasive plant species, and partaking in environmental education workshops. They will have the opportunity to work alongside Mill River Park's professional staff and to learn how an environmental non-profit organization functions as part of the local community.

Upon successful completion of the summer program, students are encouraged to participate in an after-school extension of the program which will last throughout the following school year. Although a commitment to the after-school portion of the program is not a requirement, it is strongly encouraged, and priority will be given to applicants who express intent to participate in the school year portion of the program as well.

Details:

-Stewards will work Monday through Friday from 10a.m. until ~4p.m. from July 5th until August 19th, 2022.  Additionally, for a select few Fridays Stewards will be taken on local field trips to expand learning and growth opportunities. Anyone with major scheduling conflicts or anticipated extended absences will not be accepted into the program. After the summer is over, Stewards will meet once a week after school to continue the program from September through May with an extended break in December and January.

-This position is open to all high school students in Stamford, who are at least age 15 as of the first day of work (Tuesday, July 5th, 2022).

-Each Steward will receive a $1,200 stipend at the end of the summer.

-There are a limited number of positions, so not all applicants will be accepted into the Stewards Program. Selections will favor those with demonstrated interest in the program, as well as a commitment to being present every day during the summer and expressed intent to continue through the school year.

-Qualified applicants who complete the written application will be invited for an in-person "try-out" and interview before final selections are made for the program. Please note that applications must be completed by the applicant, not their parents, and that incomplete applications will not be accepted.

-If you have any questions or comments please contact our Stewards Internship Supervisor, Madison Molnar, at madison@millriverpark.org.

-The application deadline is now Tuesday, May 31st, 2022.
